
Kanō Motonobu
Kanō Motonobu (1476–1559) was a renowned Japanese painter and calligrapher of the Kano school, a leading artistic tradition in Japan. As the son of Kanō Masanobu, he helped develop a sophisticated style blending Chinese ink painting with Japanese aesthetics, often depicting landscapes, animals, and religious themes. Motonobu played a key role in elevating the Kano school's reputation, combining technical skill with artistic innovation. His works influenced Japanese art for generations, and he contributed to establishing the Kano style as the dominant artistic tradition during the Muromachi and early Sengoku periods.
