Kampala Amendments

The Kampala Amendments are updates made in 2010 to the Rome Statute, which is the international treaty governing the International Criminal Court (ICC). These amendments specifically define and criminalize the crime of aggression—the use of armed force by one state against another unlawfully. They set out the legal framework and procedures for prosecuting individuals responsible for such acts. Essentially, the amendments aim to strengthen international justice by establishing clear rules and accountability for acts of aggressive warfare, helping prevent conflicts and ensuring that individuals, not just states, can be held responsible.
