Kamoinge Workshop
The Kamoinge Workshop was a collective of Black photographers founded in 1963 in New York City. Its members aimed to share resources, develop their craft, and highlight African American life and culture through their images. By collaborating and supporting each other, they challenged mainstream stereotypes and brought attention to their community’s experiences. The workshop played a vital role in recognizing Black photographers as important artists and contributed to broader conversations about identity, race, and social justice in visual art during the Civil Rights era.
