Kalapana
Kalapana is a small, historic community located on the Big Island of Hawaii, known for its vibrant volcanic activity and rich cultural history. It was once a thriving village with homes, farms, and a lava viewing area, but much of it was destroyed or submerged during eruptions of nearby Kīlauea volcano in the 1980s. Today, Kalapana is renowned for its dramatic lava flows that create new land and offer visitors a chance to observe active volcanic processes. Despite its destruction, the area remains a symbolic site of natural power and resilience, blending natural beauty with ongoing geological change.
