Kagyu

The Kagyu is one of the major schools of Tibetan Buddhism, emphasizing meditative practice and direct experience of spiritual insights. It traces its origins to the teachings of the Indian master Tilopa and the student Naropa, focusing on techniques like meditation, mindfulness, and advanced practices such as Mahamudra to realize the nature of mind and reality. The Kagyu tradition values oral transmission of teachings and close teacher-student relationships, aiming to attain enlightenment swiftly for the benefit of all beings. It also maintains a lineage of spiritual leaders called Karmapas, who play a central role in guiding practitioners.
