Kafirstan

Kafiristan, also known as Nuristan, is a mountainous region in northeastern Afghanistan. Historically, it was inhabited by people practicing ancient polytheistic religions, distinct from mainstream Islam. The name "Kafiristan" means "Land of the unbelievers," reflecting its pre-Islamic beliefs. In the late 19th century, the Afghan government or external groups converted the region to Islam, and its name was changed to Nuristan, meaning "Land of Light." Today, Nuristan is known for its rugged terrain, unique culture, and remote villages, making it a noteworthy area with a complex history of cultural and religious transformation.
