K-wires

K-wires, or Kirschner wires, are thin, smooth or threaded metal pins used by doctors to help stabilize broken bones or joint injuries. They are inserted through the skin into the bone to hold fragments together during healing. K-wires are often temporary, usually removed once the bone has healed sufficiently. They are minimally invasive, cost-effective, and versatile, commonly used in orthopedic surgeries for hand, wrist, or finger fractures. Their primary purpose is to ensure proper alignment and stability of the bone during recovery, promoting effective healing and restoring function.
