
Kösem Sultan
Kösem Sultan was a powerful influential woman in the Ottoman Empire during the 17th century, serving as a chief wife and later as regent for her young sons and grandsons. Born around 1589, she rose to prominence within the imperial harem and became one of the most influential women in Ottoman history. As regent, she held significant political power, shaping policies and decisions during a period of internal strife. Her political influence ultimately made her a target, and she was executed in 1651. Today, she is remembered as a key figure in Ottoman political history and palace intrigue.
