K-Pg Boundary
The K-Pg boundary is a geological marker marking the end of the Cretaceous Period and the start of the Paleogene Period, around 66 million years ago. It’s most famous for coinciding with a massive extinction event that wiped out the dinosaurs, along with many other species. The boundary is identified by a sudden change in the types of rocks and a layer rich in a rare element called iridium, believed to be from a giant asteroid impact. This event dramatically affected Earth’s climate and ecosystems, leading to the rise of mammals and shaping the future of life on our planet.
