Kōbō Daishi

Kōbō Daishi, also known as Kukai, was a revered Japanese monk and scholar from the 9th and 10th centuries. He founded the Shingon school of Buddhism, emphasizing esoteric practices and rituals aimed at spiritual enlightenment. Kukai is credited with introducing complex Buddhist teachings to Japan, as well as developing calligraphy and art. He is venerated as a saint, and many temples and pilgrimage routes are dedicated to him. His teachings focus on achieving enlightenment through meditation, mantra chanting, and rituals, making him a central figure in Japanese Buddhist history.
