K-141 Kursk
K-141 Kursk was a Russian nuclear submarine that sank in the Barents Sea during a NATO exercise in August 2000. The submarine suffered a catastrophic explosion caused by a faulty torpedo, leading to the loss of all 118 crew members. Despite efforts to rescue survivors, the submarine was severely damaged and eventually sank. The incident highlighted issues with safety protocols and the aging Russian submarine fleet. The loss of Kursk remains one of the deadliest submarine accidents in history, prompting international attention and calls for improved nuclear safety standards.
