JUPITER trial

The JUPITER trial studied whether the drug rosuvastatin (a cholesterol-lowering medication) could prevent heart attacks and strokes in healthy people with normal or near-normal cholesterol levels but elevated C-reactive protein, a marker of inflammation. Results showed that rosuvastatin significantly reduced the risk of cardiovascular events in this group, suggesting that even people without high cholesterol might benefit from statins if they have signs of inflammation. This trial helped expand understanding of who might benefit from cholesterol-lowering therapy beyond traditional risk factors.
