Junta of Valladolid

The Junta of Valladolid (1559-1561) was a regional council established by the Spanish Crown to address the challenges facing the kingdom of Granada, which had been recently reconquered from the Moors. It aimed to reorganize administration, promote economic recovery, and integrate the territories culturally and socially. This governing body sought to stabilize the region, implement royal policies locally, and facilitate the integration of Granada into the broader Spanish realm after centuries of Islamic rule. It reflects a colonial effort to consolidate control and promote development in a frontier region during Spain’s Renaissance period.
