Journey of Alvar Núñez Cabeza de Vaca

Alvar Núñez Cabeza de Vaca was a Spanish explorer who, in 1527, led an expedition to explore what is now the southeastern United States. After a series of hardships, including shipwrecks and conflicts, he and a small group of survivors wandered across Texas, eventually reaching the Gulf of Mexico. Over several years, they traveled through unfamiliar territory, interacting with indigenous peoples and learning about their cultures. His journey provided valuable insights into North America and challenged European assumptions about the land and its peoples. His accounts are some of the earliest European descriptions of the interior of North America.
