Joseph Fry

Joseph Fry was an English chocolate maker and inventor in the 18th century who played a key role in developing the first chocolate bar suitable for eating. In 1847, he and his son created a process to produce a solid, moldable chocolate product by mixing cocoa solids with sugar and cocoa butter. This innovation helped transform chocolate from a drink into a convenient, popular treat. Fry’s work laid the foundation for the modern confectionery industry, and his company, Fry’s, became one of the earliest manufacturers of chocolate bars.
