Joseph Bologne

Joseph Bologne, known as the Chevalier de Saint-Georges, was an 18th-century classical composer, violinist, and conductor of mixed French and Caribbean descent. Born in 1745 in Guadeloupe, he became a prominent figure in Parisian musical life, admired for his exceptional violin skills and compositions. Bologne was also a skilled swordsman and a champion fencer. He was one of the few Black classical musicians of his time to achieve such prominence, breaking racial barriers in European high society.
