José María Morelos y Pavón
José María Morelos y Pavón was a Mexican revolutionary leader and priest who played a key role in Mexico's fight for independence from Spain in the early 19th century. After Miguel Hidalgo's death, Morelos took command of the independence movement, organizing efforts, drafting important documents like the "Sentimientos de la Nación" (Sentiments of the Nation), and pushing for social reforms, including abolishing slavery. He is considered a national hero for his leadership and dedication to Mexico’s independence, though he was eventually captured and executed in 1815. His contributions laid the groundwork for Mexico’s eventual independence.
