
José de Gálvez
José de Gálvez was a Spanish colonial official in the 18th century who played a key role in strengthening Spain’s control over its territories in North America and the Pacific. As a royal commissioner and visitador (inspector), he directed reforms to improve Administration, defense, and economic development, notably in New Spain (Mexico) and California. Gálvez coordinated military efforts against Britain during the Seven Years' War and helped establish missions and presidios (military forts) to expand Spanish influence. His leadership significantly shaped the colonial strategies that aimed to secure and expand Spain’s empire in the Americas.
