José Antonio Echeverría

José Antonio Echeverría was a Cuban student leader and revolutionary born in 1937. He played a significant role in the Cuban opposition against the government of Fidel Castro during the 1950s. Echeverría co-founded the Directorio Revolucionario, a group dedicated to ending Castro’s regime. He is known for leading efforts to coordinate resistance and for organizing the attack on the Presidential Palace in 1957. Tragically, he was killed in 1958 during a police raid while planning an uprising, becoming a symbol of resistance and opposition to dictatorship in Cuba.
