Jonathan Maccabeus
Jonathan Maccabeus was a Jewish leader and a key figure in the Maccabean Revolt (around 167–160 BCE) against the Seleucid Empire. As a son of Judas Maccabeus, he helped lead Jewish forces in fighting for religious freedom and independence when Greek rulers sought to impose Hellenistic practices. Jonathan played a crucial role in consolidating Jewish resistance, eventually becoming the high priest and ruler of Judea. His leadership contributed to the temporary re-establishment of Jewish sovereignty and the preservation of Jewish religious traditions during a turbulent period.
