Joint Employment

Joint employment occurs when two or more employers share responsibility for an individual's work and employment conditions. This means that both employers are considered legally responsible for complying with labor laws, such as wages, hours, and workplace safety, for that worker. It often happens in arrangements where a worker is employed by a staffing agency but works at a different company's location or project. Recognizing joint employment ensures that workers' rights are protected and that multiple employers cannot avoid their legal obligations by sharing employment duties.
