Johnston Atoll

Johnston Atoll is a remote atoll located in the central Pacific Ocean, about 750 nautical miles southwest of Hawaii. It consists of several small islands that were used by the U.S. military and government for testing, calibration, and defense purposes, including as a storage site for nuclear and chemical weapons. Over time, it has been used for missile testing, satellite tracking, and hazardous material disposal. Today, Johnston Atoll is mostly uninhabited, managed as a wildlife refuge, and is a site of historical significance due to its military history and environmental cleanup efforts.
