Johnny Appleseed (John Chapman)
Johnny Appleseed, whose real name was John Chapman, was an American nurseryman and pioneer born in 1774. He became famous for planting apple orchards across the Midwest, often near frontier settlements. Unlike commercial farmers, he focused on growing apples for cider and personal use, promoting conservation and sharing seedlings generously. His efforts helped expand apple cultivation in the United States. Chapman was also known for his kindness, simplicity, and devotion to nature and community. Over time, Johnny Appleseed became a folk hero and symbol of American wilderness and benevolence.
