
John Wesley Dobbs
John Wesley Dobbs was a prominent leader in Atlanta's African-American community during the early to mid-20th century. Known as the "Mayor of Sweet Auburn," he was a civic, religious, and business leader dedicated to improving opportunities for Black residents. Dobbs was instrumental in promoting education, civil rights, and economic development. He also played a key role in establishing the historic colored baseball leagues and the Auburn Avenue neighborhood as a cultural hub. His efforts helped advance social justice and foster pride within the Black community in Atlanta.
