John Sutter (Johann August Sutter)

Johann August Sutter, known as John Sutter, was a German immigrant and pioneer who settled in California during the 1800s. He established a large landholding and built a sawmill, which became a key center for early settlement and economic activity. Sutter’s land attracted many settlers and contributed to California’s growth, especially during the Gold Rush period when prospectors flocked to the region.
