
John Sevier (politician)
John Sevier was a prominent American pioneer and politician, known for his role in the early history of Tennessee. Born in 1745, he was a leader in frontier settlement and fought in the Revolutionary War. Sevier was a founding member of the State of Tennessee, serving as its first governor from 1796 to 1801 and again from 1803 to 1809. He was instrumental in establishing Tennessee's independence from North Carolina and in shaping its early government. His leadership helped secure Tennessee’s place as a new state in the United States.
