John of Gischala
John of Gischala was a Jewish leader during the First Jewish-Roman War (66–73 CE). He was a member of the Zealots, a militant group seeking to oppose Roman rule and restore Jewish independence. John was known for his fierce, passionate resistance and leadership in the city of Gischala (Gush Halav in modern Israel). His tactics included guerrilla warfare and aggressive resistance against Roman forces. His actions contributed to internal divisions among Jewish factions and prolonged the conflict, which ultimately ended with the destruction of Jerusalem and the Second Temple.
