John Mitchell Jr.

John Mitchell Jr. was an influential African American journalist and civil rights advocate in the late 19th and early 20th centuries. He founded and edited the Richmond Planet newspaper, which fought against racial injustice, segregation, and lynching. Mitchell used his platform to promote equal rights, educate the Black community, and challenge discrimination during a time of widespread racial violence and inequality in the United States. His activism and journalism made him a prominent leader in the fight for racial justice in Virginia and beyond.
