John McLoughlin
John McLoughlin was a prominent 19th-century fur trapper and trader in North America, often called the "Father of Oregon" for his role in early settlement. As chief factor at the Hudson’s Bay Company's Fort Vancouver, he coordinated trade and established relationships with indigenous peoples. Known for his leadership and community-building, McLoughlin helped pioneer the Oregon Trail, supporting settlers moving west. His actions contributed significantly to the development of the Pacific Northwest region, and he is remembered as a key figure in American and Canadian frontier history.
