John J. McKernan Jr.

John J. McKernan Jr. is an American politician who served as the 88th Governor of Maine from 1987 to 1995. Prior to that, he was a member of the U.S. House of Representatives representing Maine’s 1st district from 1983 to 1987. A member of the Republican Party, he focused on fiscal responsibility, economic development, and environmental issues during his governorship. Before his political career, he was a Marine Corps officer. After leaving office, he continued to be active in public service and community activities.
