John C. Fremont

John C. Fremont was an American explorer, military officer, and politician in the 19th century. He led important expeditions to chart the Western United States, helping to open the region for settlement and expansion. Fremont also played a key role in the U.S. Army during the Mexican-American War and was a prominent figure in the California Gold Rush. Politically, he was the first Republican presidential candidate in 1856.
