John A. Logan (politician)

John A. Logan was a 19th-century American politician and military leader. He served as a U.S. Congressman and Senator from Illinois, and was the 3rd Union Army officer to become a Major General during the Civil War. Known for his leadership at the Battle of Chattanooga, he was also the National Commander of the Grand Army of the Republic, an organization of Union veterans. After the war, he focused on public service, advocating for veterans' rights and policies. Logan is remembered as a prominent advocate for Union causes and a significant figure in American military and political history.
