He is best known for discovering that ultraviolet light can cause certain chemicals to glow and for his pioneering work in understanding electromagnetism, that is, how electricity and magnetism are related. Ritter also made important contributions to the study of electricity, including early experiments with batteries. His research helped lay the foundation for modern physics and our understanding of light and electromagnetic phenomena.
