Jodo-shu
Jodo-shu, or the Pure Land School, is a Japanese Buddhist tradition emphasizing devotion to Amitabha Buddha. Practitioners believe that by sincerely reciting Amitabha's name, they can be reborn in the "Pure Land," a blissful realm where enlightenment is easier to attain. Founded in the 12th century by Honen, Jodo-shu focuses on faith and continuous recitation rather than complex rituals or meditation. Its goal is to achieve salvation through reliance on Amitabha’s vow to save all beings, making enlightenment accessible to ordinary people. The school has greatly influenced Japanese Buddhist practice and culture.
