Jinlian

Jinlian, also known as "golden lotus," is a traditional Chinese foot-binding practice that involved tightly wrapping young girls' feet to modify their shape and size. Historically, this was done to meet societal ideals of beauty and status, often resulting in very small, arched feet. The process was painful and could cause severe health issues, including infections and mobility problems. Although foot-binding was officially banned in China in the early 20th century, it has significant cultural and historical importance. Today, Jinlian is viewed as a symbol of cultural heritage rather than a practice to be emulated.
