Jim Jones

Jim Jones was a religious leader and founder of the Peoples Temple, a movement established in the 1950s. Originally promoting social justice and racial equality, it attracted many followers. However, over time, the group became increasingly controlling and oppressive. In 1978, facing scrutiny and possible legal action, Jones led over 900 of his followers to a mass murder-suicide in Jonestown, Guyana, where they drank poison. His life and actions highlight the dangers of charismatic leadership manipulated for destructive purposes.
