JI (Joint Implementation)
Joint Implementation (JI) is a climate policy mechanism under international agreements like the Kyoto Protocol. It allows countries with emission reduction targets (called Annex I countries) to invest in emission-reducing projects in other developed countries. By doing so, they can earn emission reduction credits that count towards their targets. Essentially, JI promotes cooperation by enabling countries to work together on projects—such as renewable energy or efficiency improvements—that reduce greenhouse gases. This promotes cost-effective solutions while helping meet climate goals through shared efforts and investments.
