Jewish Ghetto

A Jewish ghetto was a designated area within cities where Jewish communities were forced to live, often under strict restrictions. These neighborhoods were established predominantly during times of persecution, such as in medieval Europe and notably during Nazi occupation in World War II. Ghettos aimed to segregate Jews from the rest of the population, often subjecting residents to overcrowding, poor conditions, and limited freedom. In the Holocaust, ghettos became holding places where Jews were confined before being deported to extermination camps, symbolizing the systemic efforts to isolate and persecute Jewish populations.
