Jeremy Bentham's Calculus
Jeremy Bentham's Calculus of Felicicity is a method for evaluating actions based on their potential to produce happiness or pleasure. It considers seven factors: intensity (how strong the pleasure), duration (how long it lasts), certainty (likelihood it will occur), propinquity (closeness in time), fecundity (chance of producing future pleasures), purity (freedom from pain), and extent (number of people affected). By assessing these factors, one can determine which actions are most likely to maximize overall happiness. This approach helps in making ethical choices aimed at achieving the greatest good for the greatest number.
