Jeremiah Dixon

Jeremiah Dixon (1733–1779) was an English surveyor and astronomer best known for co-designing the Mason-Dixon Line, the boundary marking the limits between Maryland and Pennsylvania in colonial America. His expertise in precise surveying helped resolve territorial disputes and establish clear borders. Dixon's work involved detailed measurements and celestial navigation, reflecting his skills in both fieldwork and scientific observation. Although primarily a surveyor, his contributions have had a lasting impact on American history, as the Mason-Dixon Line became a symbolic boundary separating free and slave states prior to the Civil War.
