Jeremiad
A jeremiad is a speech or piece of writing that laments societal decline or moral deterioration, often expressing deep dissatisfaction and warning of negative consequences if change doesn't occur. Named after the biblical prophet Jeremiah, such works tend to identify faults in society, appealing for reflection or moral renewal. They can be used to motivate action or highlight problems, sometimes sounding pessimistic or moralistic. In essence, a jeremiad is a passionate critique that emphasizes disappointment and urges a return to better values or behavior.
