Jean Purdy

Jean Purdy was a pioneering British biologist and one of the first women to work in the field of in vitro fertilization (IVF). She played a crucial role in developing IVF techniques alongside fellow researchers Robert Edwards and Patrick Steptoe. Purdy's contributions were instrumental in the successful conception of the first "test-tube baby," Louise Brown, in 1978. Despite her significant achievements, she often remained overshadowed by her male counterparts. Purdy’s work has had a lasting impact on reproductive medicine, helping countless families conceive and paving the way for advances in fertility treatments.
