Jean-Louis Vignes

Jean-Louis Vignes was a pioneering French-American vintner who, in the early 19th century, played a key role in establishing California as a wine-producing region. He emigrated from France to California and founded one of the first major vineyards there in 1833, importing high-quality grapevines and expertise from France. Vignes' efforts helped introduce French winemaking techniques to California, laying the foundation for its future wine industry. His work contributed to elevating California wine’s reputation, and his vineyard eventually evolved into the renowned Yountville estate, Signorello.
