Jean de Valette was a French nobleman and military leader who became a key figure in Malta's history. He served as the Grand Master of the Knights of St. John during the 16th century. Valette is best known for organizing the defense of Malta during the Great Siege of 1565, when the Ottoman Empire attempted to take the island. His leadership helped the Knights withstand the siege, leading to the construction of the city of Valletta, named in his honor.
