Jean Carruthers
Jean Carruthers is a Canadian ophthalmologist known for her pioneering work in cosmetic medicine, particularly for her development of the use of botulinum toxin (commonly known as Botox) for cosmetic purposes. In the early 1990s, she discovered that Botox could effectively reduce facial wrinkles by temporarily paralyzing muscles. This innovative use has since transformed the cosmetic industry, making Botox one of the most popular non-surgical treatments for aging. Carruthers' contributions have significantly advanced both aesthetic medicine and our understanding of the therapeutic applications of botulinum toxin.
