Jatene procedure
The Jatene procedure, also known as arterial switch operation, is a surgery to correct a congenital heart defect called transposition of the great arteries. In this condition, the main arteries leaving the heart are reversed, impairing blood flow. During the surgery, surgeons swap the positions of the aorta and pulmonary artery, reconnecting them to the correct ventricles. They also reattach the coronary arteries to ensure proper blood supply to the heart muscle. This procedure restores normal circulation, allowing oxygen-rich blood to flow to the body and deoxygenated blood to go to the lungs, significantly improving the child's heart function and health.
