Japanese American Citizens League
The Japanese American Citizens League (JACL) is a nonprofit organization founded in 1929 that advocates for the civil rights and betterment of Japanese Americans and other Asian Americans. It works to promote social justice, preserve cultural heritage, and address issues like racial discrimination, injustices, and immigration policies. Historically, the JACL played a significant role in advocating for the rights of Japanese Americans during and after World War II, including efforts to secure redress and compensation for those wronged by wartime internment. It continues today as a leading voice for Asian American advocacy and community support.
