Japan Trench

The Japan Trench is a deep oceanic trench located off the eastern coast of Japan. It forms where the Pacific Plate is slowly sliding beneath the North American Plate, creating a subduction zone. This process causes intense geological activity, including earthquakes and volcanic eruptions. The trench is part of the Pacific Ring of Fire, a region known for frequent seismic activity. Its depth reaches over 10,000 meters, making it one of the world's deepest ocean trenches. The Japan Trench plays a significant role in the Earth's tectonic processes and has been associated with major earthquakes, such as the 2011 Tohoku earthquake.
