Jammu and Kashmir Reorganisation Act
The Jammu and Kashmir Reorganisation Act, passed in 2019, reorganized the former state of Jammu and Kashmir into two separate Union Territories: Jammu & Kashmir, which has a legislative assembly, and Ladakh, which does not. This restructuring aimed to improve governance, ensure better administration, and integrate these regions more closely into India. It also ended the special constitutional status previously granted to Jammu and Kashmir under Article 370, standardizing laws and policies across India. The act was part of the government’s effort to promote development and stability in the region.
