Jammu and Kashmir Assembly

The Jammu and Kashmir Assembly is the legislative body responsible for making laws and policies for the Jammu and Kashmir region. It is similar to a state government’s assembly, where elected representatives debate and decide on issues affecting the area. The assembly’s members are chosen by local voters, and the assembly's decisions influence local governance, development, and administration. Since August 2019, Jammu and Kashmir's special status was revoked, and it was reorganized into two separate Union Territories—Jammu and Kashmir, and Ladakh—altering the assembly's powers and structure accordingly.
